Iron(II) sulfate heptahydrate is used as a precursor to produce additional iron compounds, including a grass conditioner and a mordant for wool dyeing. It is actively employed in the production of ink, particularly iron gall ink. As a reducing agent, it contributes to the reduction of chromate in cement.
